MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently benefit from a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has actually been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of little businesses in Cornwall currently earn money from utilized cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this sort of industry going it does need just a little bit of lift which can be found in the kind of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
