MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel presently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of little organizations in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to have the ability to get this kind of market going it does need simply a little bit of lift which comes in the form of tax foregone."

Biodiesel is a mix of standard diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
