MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel presently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of small companies in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this type of market going it does need just a little bit of lift which comes in the kind of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a mix of standard diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
